My 2020 Half Time Speech
I’m really into sports. Honestly, I’m missing live sports a lot right now. My husband and I usually compare our challenges in life to some sort of sporting event so it’s no surprise that he sent me a halftime speech at the end of June. As usual, he inspired me, so I decided to write my own half time speech.
What I love about half time is that it gives you a chance to regroup. You’ve had time to notice what the opponent’s strategy is. You can evaluate your own performance and adjust accordingly.
Here’s my halftime speech:
The second quarter was tough! We got a lot thrown at us that we weren’t ready for. Some of us immediately accepted the challenge, while others got left behind.
It’s clear that this year isn’t going to be an easy one, but we came into it with one goal: to win. We had 20/20 vision. So let’s look at what we can do better? How can we improve?
How can we be better neighbors? How can we show love to strangers? Can we do the hard work to dismantle systemic racism? Can we do the hard work to reimagine our school system and how we think of childcare? Will we be able to find boundaries between work and life?
We cannot ignore the issues that this year has exposed. We have to engage. We have to reimagine. We have to push through. For if we choose to roll over and allow 2020 to keep delivering blow after blow, we will certainly come out worse than we went in. In order to grow from this challenge, we have to engage with it.
So ask yourself, what’s working? What has to change? Who are the key players and how can we be sure everyone is involved? With whatever challenge you’re trying to work through, these questions can help you create a game plan to win the second half.
Big love,
Anisa Naomi
