The Benefits of Beet Juice (with recipe)
If you’ve been keeping up with me on IG lately, you’ve probably seen me drinking my fresh beet juice blend. Every time I share that I’m drinking it I get asked 2 questions:
1) Does that taste good?
2) What are the benefits?
I’ll be answering both today; obviously, I’ll be spending most of my time on question number 2.
But first … the big question. Does it taste good? YES! I genuinely enjoy the taste of this juice. I know a lot of people don’t think that the beets will taste good, but there are so many other sweet fruits and they blend together really well, not to mention all of the benefits.
The Benefits
Generally speaking the biggest thing that I notice when I drink the beet juice is my increase in focus and energy. I replaced my pre-workout for this juice blend one week and I killed every one of my workouts. This benefit is the main reason I keep drinking this blend, but there are a few other internal benefits that I might not notice right away.
Energy & Focus
The B vitamins in carrots, beets and celery can likely take credit for the increase in energy and focus. There’s been minimal research that supports the idea that boosting vitamin B intake has a positive impact on energy and focus.
Muscle Recovery
I’ve been using this juice as a way to help reduce soreness and I am legit noticing a difference. At first, I thought that I was simply getting stronger and improving my physical endurance, but I’ve found that my soreness is still less intense even when I’m putting myself through intense workouts. I’m not a professional but I am certainly in tune with my own body so I’ll continue to drink this post workout to curb my soreness.
Improved Digestion
I mean, I’m pretty sure if you put lemon and ginger in anything, your digestive system will fall in line, that’s honestly the only reason why they’re a part of the recipe.
Skin Health
Shout out to the carrots for this one! Ok, so I’m a little bit obsessed with my skin care routine. Lately, I’ve been consciously eating more foods that support healthy skin. Head over this blog post for more on that. I added carrots to this recipe because they are supposed to be an anti-aging secret weapon. I know some of you might be thinking, “Anisa, you’re not old – why are you worried about anti-aging?” The truth is, we’re all aging. You might as well age well.
I am certainly not the expert, but I always try my best to do my research. If you’re looking for the best juicer, it honestly depends on your preference. There are a ton of options on Amazon, here is the one we use and I love it. It’s compact as far as kitchen appliances go and it’s easy to clean.
The Recipe
Alright, alright! If you’ve stuck with me this long, I’m sure you’re ready for the recipe. So here it goes:
Ingredients:
4 beets
6 whole carrots
3 lemons
3 pears
3 stalks of celery
a lil ginger ( I usually peel and cut a piece that is about the length of my thumb nail)
a lil turmeric (I usually peel and cut a piece that is half the size of the ginger piece)
Directions:
1) Wash your fruits and veggies
2) Wash them one more time for good measure
3) Prep your ingredients so that they’re ready t o be fed into your juicer. I usually peel my lemons, cut my beets, cut the pears and cut the celery
4) Start juicing - I don’t feed the ingredients in any particular order
5) I like to pour my juice back into my juicer to make sure I’ve gotten all of the pulp out of the juice. It really depends on the type of juicer you have and how you like your juice
6) Chill and serve
