It’s Time to Take Your Skincare Routine Beyond Your Bathroom
We live during a time where everyone is looking to put their best face forward at all times, whether you are looking to achieve the effortless, natural look or you want to be presentable for an impromptu insta-story rant, it’s safe to say that we’re all looking for the perfect skin care routine to give us a 24/7 natural glow. I’ve spent years looking for the perfect skin care line to address my skin concerns of dull, blemished skin. While I’ve successfully found products that keep my skin glowing for a while, I notice that I there are still times where my skin doesn’t look its best. I’ve found that when a bump or blemish shows up, I’ve usually been neglecting basic nutritional needs and it shows up in my skin. Whether you’re pounding water, eating good fats or drinking probiotics, it’s safe to say that what we put in our body has a direct effect on the look of our skin. Here are just a few ways that I take my skin care regimen beyond my bathroom counter and into my kitchen.
1) WATER
By now, this should be a no brainer but you’d be surprised how many adults are still making poor beverage decisions on a daily basis. Drop the sugar filled soda and pick up a bottle of water (preferably a reusable one). I started carrying around a water bottle in college and I’ve kept up the habit. Now, you’ll never catch me without it. I’ve found that I drink more water when my bottle has a straw, my favorite is this one, it’s great because you can take the straw out and the bottle seals itself!
2) FRUITS & VEGGIES
It’s the age-old saying, you are what you eat. I’ve found that when I’m eating my greens and other colorful veggies, my skin is very happy. I’ve grown to love kale (shouts out to my husband for making it taste 🔥), broccoli and asparagus. As for colorful veggies, I’m currently loving beets and carrots. They’re perfect for juicing and when I add a little lemon, I feel like I get the perfect glow. On weeks that I don’t make juice, I only eat vegetables 2x a day and maybe a few blueberries for a snack. I know that’s not enough so I supplement with my Arbonne Greens Balance, which has a ton of whole fruits and veggies in powder form to get you all the antioxidants, nutrients and fiber you need. It’s a super easy way to get your fruits and veggies, just add it to a glass of water or green smoothie and keep it pushing.
3) GOOD FAT
A.K.A. Omega 3 fatty acids. You can find it in salmon, avocado (did someone say guac?), and walnuts to name my favorites. The omega 3 fats help keep your skin moisturized and supple and help your skin recover from UV exposure. You’ll also usually find vitamin E and zinc in foods that contain the Omega 3 fats. These both help improve moisture from the inside out and protect from inflammation. I’m a huge believer in this tip since it can literally help you build your dermal layers healthily from the inside out. Topical treatments are great, but if your foundation is trash you’ll keep running into the same issues.
4) COLLAGEN BOOSTER
Collagen - from the Greek word “kolla”, meaning glue - is a protein that provides structure for our skin, bones, and ligaments. Our body naturally produces this protein but over time we produce less of it and we produce it at a lower quality - this takes a toll on our skin and bones. Basically, you can blame your lack of collagen for the reason you can no longer pop, lock or drop it like you used to.
By adding a collagen supplement to our diet, we can help our body to produce more collagen at a higher quality; this helps improve your skin and joint health. I honestly have steered clear of collagen supplements for the longest because most of them contain ground up cow bones - thanks, but no thanks! I was happy to find this 100% vegan collagen builder that uses botanical extracts to help your body produce it’s own collagen. Plus, it contains hyaluronic acid, you really can’t beat that. Add it to a glass of water or your greens balance drink. Shoot me a message if you want more info on this gem.
5) PROBIOTICS
When our digestive health is not at optimal performance, it shows up in our skin. Studies show that common skin issues can be related to the health and balance of your gut and digestive system (SOURCE). One way to accelerate healing your gut is by taking probiotic supplements to help balance the gut microbiome.
Probiotics are a friendly bacteria that are supposed to colonize your gut with healthy microorganisms. Many people associate probiotics with improving your digestion. While this is the most well-known benefit of supplemental probiotics, other benefits linked to taking probiotics include weight-loss, stronger immune system and improved skin health (obviously).
Studies have suggested that when taking a probiotic supplement, the skin improves in elasticity and hydration. I really dig the SUJA Juices with probiotics when I’m on the go and I love to add Arbonne’s GI-supporting digestive supplement to my morning smoothies. Now through the end of February, you can grab some favorite skin loving regimens and get a free 30-day supply of Digestive Plus. Message me to and I can help you get your hands on the supplement and the skincare line.
the takeaway
Most skin-care routines address a specific skin issue externally. However, this only reactively addresses one aspect of the overall health of our body’s largest organ, the skin. A comprehensive skin solution should consider the direct connection between what we eat and how that affects our skin. When we provide our body healthy, whole foods combined with good, clean supplements to promote a overall nourishment, we allow our skin to be restored from within. Implementing the 5 steps above could level-up you everyday skin-care routine. Got questions? Shoot me a message, I’d love to help.
